Born and raised in the birthplace of hip hop, CPR fully known as Captain Puerto Rico, was immersed into the culture starting at age 6. Starting with the street dance style of ‘breaking,’ only a few years later he found himself diving into other styles and art forms of the culture such as ‘popping, hip hop freestyle, house, locking, graffiti writing, MC’ing, and djing. 5 years after starting his dance journey at such a young age is when he fell in love with the production process and mixing of the music of which he was dancing to.
Fast forward throughout grade school to high school he developed himself and his identity based on the times of which he studied the pioneers. Since this journey started in the late 90’s and early 2000’s before the YouTube era, his access of information was very limited. This limitation enforced a unique approach of being a modern child of the culture while honoring the history before him in the Mecca of hip hop. This is what he calls a “Mecca Child”.
CPR continues to travel all over and we are immensely excited to have him finally bring his unique ability to move a crowd right here in Cleveland!
